In December 2014, the Mabel Tainter Theater had the pleasure of hosting the Continental Ballet Company’s “The Nutcracker.” Two hundred young students from three schools in Dunn County were able to attend a matinee performance just for them. This was a special treat for the children as it was some of their first trips to the Mabel Tainter. The Community Foundation of Dunn County helped make this possible by providing a grant to transport the students to and from the event.

Just after the first act, the performer who played the character Uncle Drosselmeyer, entertained the children by asking and answering questions about the play. It truly was amazing to see all the children getting involved and really appreciating the art of interpretive dance. The Continental Ballet Company Art Director told us after the show that, the cast and crew love performing at the theater, and most especially for children. She says it’s wonderful and important for children to experience an art such as ballet; the movement, the music, the sets…it all comes together to create a beautiful story without the use of dialogue.
