Dr. James and Gail Haemmerle Scholarship

Dr. James and Gail Haemmerle established a scholarship fund at the Community Foundation, motivated by their strong belief that education is the key that unlocks the door to success in life. They are grateful for the generous donations by strangers who gave them the opportunity to pursue their own education and careers. This scholarship is their effort to “pay it forward” and share that same opportunity with individuals in Dunn County, where the Haemmerles made their home before retirement.

To maximize impact, this scholarship award will provide full tuition to a non-traditional student to obtain an associate degree, technical diploma, or certificate program in any field of study.  Applicants must have demonstrated financial need and must currently reside in one of the following communities in western Wisconsin:  Menomonie, Downsville, Knapp, Colfax, Boyceville, Glenwood City, Wilson, Hersey, Spring Valley, Elmwood, Eau Galle, Downing, or Ridgeland, WI.  Preference is given to applicants who have experienced hardship or barriers to obtaining a post-secondary education. A Personal Statement of Financial need is required.

The application opens in May each year through the deadline of 5pm, July 1st.  One award is available to cover one student’s full tuition, paid out each semester upon proof of enrollment and good standing, consecutively each semester until degree completion.  The award is to be paid directly to the recipient’s school of choice, to be used for approved education-related expenses only.  For questions, contact the Community Foundation of Dunn County by emailing grants@cfdunncounty.org or by phone at (715) 232-8019.
