Tucked away in the River Heights neighborhood of Menomonie lies the Keil Birch Creek Nature Preserve, a 28 acre forested parcel of land along the Red Cedar River.

This preserve was made possible by a large number of residents, businesses and a grant West Wisconsin Land Trust submitted to the Foundation in the spring of 2009. Two local neighborhood residents worked with the Western Wisconsin Land Trust to help raise the funds for this project.
Their purpose for creating this preserve was to enhance the quality of life and the quality of water in the community. These woods, prior to becoming the Keil Birch Nature Preserve, had been a common place for neighborhood residents to walk and play in. They had a vision to ensure the land would be available to their grandchildren and many future generations of families in Menomonie and Dunn County.

The preserve is open to the public for the use of hunting, trapping, fishing, bird-watching, walking/hiking and environmental education. However, mountain biking, camping, horseback riding and canoeing is not permitted on the property. The location of the Keil Birch Nature Preserve can be found at the very end of River Heights Road in Menomonie.
