The word philanthropy comes from a Greek word that means, “love for humanity.”  For the week leading up to Valentine’s Day we will be highlighting a story from the community each day.

When the Dunn County Community Center and Ice Hockey Arena needed to undergo massive renovations the community of Dunn County stepped up.

In just one year the community of Dunn County came together to raise the necessary funds. One donor stated:

We would like this donation to be in honor of our two sons and grandson, for the wonderful memories they gave us during their hockey careers. We spent many hours at the ice arena while watching many exciting hockey games.

This building is truly a “Community Center.”  A facility for Menomonie Youth Hockey, Menomonie High School, and UW-Stout it truly benefits the entire community.

Improvements to the Community Center included a new more secure Zamboni Room, replacing the original boiler, getting a new roof for the building, painting the inside, installing new windows and doubling the concession preparation area. On the outside, the steel siding has been painted and a player entrance and bus parking were added on the north side of the arena. While the community center is only 95% done it is currently open to the public.
This building is sure to be a staple in the community for years to come!
