The word philanthropy comes from a Greek word that means, “love for humanity.”  For the week leading up to Valentine’s Day we will be highlighting a story from the community each day.

Bryon and Catherine Olson, of Menomonie, Wisconsin, desired that a portion of their estate be used to establish a fund to benefit the citizens of Dunn County that are in need of supplemental medical care or services. In 2011 the Byron Olson Memorial Fund was established.

This fund allows the current of Board of Directors at the Community Foundation to distribute funds where they are needed in Dunn County, each year.

This year the funds went to help provide free dental care at the Free Clinic of the Greater Menomonie Area. The Free Clinic provides access to primary health care to those who have no health care alternative and are unable to afford healthcare services.

Because of the Bryon and Catherine Olson Memorial Fund 20 people in Dunn County will receive the dental care they need this year.
