In 2009, the Merry Mixers Club of the Grapevine Senior Center in Colfax requested the Foundation fund an electrical upgrade for two gas stoves and other electrical functionality in the kitchen at the Center. The Club ended up purchasing one 36″ gas range stove.
The Colfax Merry Mixers Club was established in the spring of 1972 by Onalee Vincent and Lola Bosben, who had a vision for a senior citizens club within the community. In 1977, the Village of Colfax negotiated a contract with the Dunn County Office on Aging to provide a nutrition site for the community of Colfax. The meeting room of the Colfax Municipal Building served as this nutrition site, where the Merry Mixers Club volunteered and hosted meetings, until 1998 when a drain pipe leak caused irreparable damage to the meeting room forcing the Club to halt meetings in June and July of 1998. In August the same year, the group began meeting once again at the Viking Bowl as well as two local churches.
Then in 2000, a generous local citizen offered to assist the Merry Mixers by purchasing the Grapevine Restaurant which had been vacant for two years. The benefactor requested the building be used as the nutrition site for the Colfax area as well as a social gathering facility for senior citizens. With the assistance of this local benefactor and Bremer Bank, the Merry Mixer Club became the owners of the Grapevine Senior Center. Every week, the Club prepares meals for a number of seniors in the area and it is essential to have a safe and efficient working kitchen in order to consistently provide these meals week to week.
The Grapevine Senior Center of Colfax continues to be one of the most successful senior centers in Dunn County
