It’s Community Foundation Week!

Community Foundation Week, created in 1989 by former president George H.W. Bush, recognizes the important work of community foundations throughout America and their collaborative and innovative approach to working with the public, private, and nonprofit sector. Annually, Community Foundation Week coincides with National Philanthropy Day on November 15.

The Community Foundation of Dunn County joins a nationwide celebration, November 12-18, 2021, to recognize the increasingly important role that community foundations play in strengthening localities and mitigating social issues like homelessness, polarization, and discrimination.

For more than a century, philanthropic institutions have served as a trusted partner and resource whose effect can be seen in the lives of millions and in the vibrant neighborhoods that continue to thrive through their mission-driven work.

Community foundations are independent, public entities that steward philanthropic resources from institutional and individual donors to local nonprofits and represent one of the fastest-growing forms of philanthropy.

This year, the Community Foundation of Dunn County launched two annual events for the purpose of educating our community about who we are, what we do, and how philanthropists like you can engage in creating a better community to live, work and play. In early August, a Legacy Tea event brought awareness about our legacy program and honored current legacy members. In mid August, we held a Professional Advisors Event which brought professionals together to learn about the Foundation and how they can help their clients best plan their philanthropic giving.

Every year, the Foundation has two competitive grant cycles. This year’s grant cycles awarded $64,182 to 16 local non profit organizations throughout Dunn County. We celebrate our February cycle grant recipients during our Annual Meeting held in April and our August cycle grant recipients during our Evening of Gratitude event held in September.

As community foundations find solutions for communities large and small, urban and rural – it is the collective work of these organizations that will have the most profound impact.
