New Fund Established to Support Menomonie Public Library. New Fund Announcement
Your Votes Were Counted!
The Colfax Municipal Restoration Group was the winner of the $1,000 grant awarded by the Community Foundation of Dunn County as part of our “Vote for Your Favorite Charity” campaign. More than 1,800 votes were cast for approximately 30 organizations throughout Dunn County.
Because the voting was so successful, it was decided that all of the organizations that received votes would be eligible for a $250 mini-grant in a random drawing. On December 29, 2010, the Bridge was awarded the $250 grant.
Thank you to everyone that participated in our voting. Your support helped make the end of the year a little brighter for two very worthy organizations.
Community Foundation Name Change
On October 23, 2010 the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation announced a name change. Formerly the Greater Menomonie Area Community Foundation, our name has been officially changed to Community Foundation of Dunn County. The mission, principles and values of the Foundation remain the same – only the name is different.
New Name Required a New Look.
The name change also meant that we would update the ‘look’ of the Foundation. Our new logo is a modernized version of the traditional oak tree, long recognized as a symbol of strength and longevity. Its acorns provide the ‘seeds’ for new growth. In a similar fashion, the Community Foundation is a gathering of funds (seeds) that will continue to grow and support the community for generations to come.
A New “Newsletter”
A redesigned and updated newsletter will be send to friends and associates of the Community Foundation shortly after Thanksgiving. You can sign up to receive our newsletter at www.cfdunncounty.org or download a copy. We will also be launching an e-newsletter sometime in early 2011.
Grant Deadline
The next grant deadline is February 1, 2011. You can download an application and the grant policies from the Grants section of our web site or e-mail info@cfdunncounty.org for more information. PLEASE NOTE: The Foundation’s grant cyles have been revised and new forms are also required for new grant applications. Please review the Grants section of the website for all of the details. Grants submitted for the February 1 deadline will be required to use the new forms.
Marshall W. Hagen Memorial Fund
In a true act of generosity, Marshall W. Hagen, of Colfax, made a bequest to establish a fund that would support cancer patients in the Dunn County area. Hagen, 98, passed away early in 2010, but he will live on to help future generations through his unselfish gift to the Community Foundation. Although not here to receive our thanks or take any credit, Marshall Hagen has left his legacy of caring and kindness for the benefit of future generations. Grants will be made from the Marshall W. Hagen Memorial Fund to area organizations whose work helps improve the lives of area cancer patients.
Fall Fling a Huge Success
On October 23, 2010, the Community Foundation announced its new name and unveiled its new logo for approximately 150 guests at the Off Broadway Banquet Center. The Fall Fling is a fundraising dinner that supports the operations of the Community Foundation. The evening was a huge success and we owe a special thanks to all of our sponsors and to the many individuals and businesses that generously donated items for our raffle, and the silent and live auctions. And we sincerely appreciate the great job by Chris & Travis Lee, our auctioneers; Tim Stevens, our Master of Ceremonies; and Harpist, Paula Smith, for the beautiful dinner music. We are especially grateful to our sponsors and to all those businesses and individuals that so generously donated items for our auctions and raffle – these items allowed us to raise to nearly $10,000 for our annual operations fund! Thank you for your support. Our 2010 Falling Fling Event Sponsors and 2010 Raffle & Auction Donors are listed here.
Community Foundation Week Open House
The week of November 12 -18 was proclaimed as Community Foundation Week by the Dunn County Board of Supervisors. To celebrate, the Community Foundation held an open house November 17 as way to show our appreciation to our donors and help provide more education about the role of the Foundation to community members. Thanks to everyone that helped make the open house a success and to Jan Pierce, Bridget Finke and Bill’s Distributing for providing refreshments.
