An endowment is managed as a permanent fund. The principal of the fund remains untouched and continues to grow based on investment performance. Only the earnings are used for charitable purposes. The policies of the Community Foundation of Dunn County currently allow up to 5% of the fund’s balance, including fees,  to be distributed annually. If a fund balance falls below its principal balance, grants are not available unless specifically approved by the Board of Directors.
